For the Birds
Have you noticed how popular birds have become on just about everything? As an interior designer it’s a trend that I have seen grow in popularity recently.
There are Birds on so many fabrics, wallpaper, prints and paintings, vases, pillows and home accents of all kinds! There was even a skit done by the offbeat comedy show Portlandia called “Put a Bird on it” that sums up the popularity of this trend pretty well.
Taking the bird trend to the next level, Owls in peculiar have gotten a lot of attention for a while now. It seemed everywhere you turned there was another owl accent piece. Are you one of the people who love collected the new hot trend?
It may interest you to know that there are some cultures and superstitions that consider having prints of birds in your home to be bad luck. If you one of those people, it’s important to know what the full repeat of a fabric pattern is, because there may just be a bird in your flower printed fabric. Many years ago when I worked for a fabric showroom, we had a customer order some high end fabric from one of the many fabrics books we had. The full pattern wasn’t shown in the book so when it arrived she was very surprised to see a bird within her fabric pattern. Ever since then I make sure my clients know the full repeats so there are no unhappy surprises.
