Do you have an area in your home that has never had a purpose? That was the case with a recent client’s awkward family room. Placing functional furniture in their “L” shaped room was a challenge for this family.
I developed a floor plan that comfortably accommodated everyone. We included a sectional sofa that made watching TV comfortable and used their blank wall to build a custom bookcase with a cozy reading nook that made excellent use of a big blank wall with a custom built-in bookcase; along the blank wall, we included a cozy reading nook.
I have always loved window seats and reading nooks. I find they have a romantic quality and offer a space to enjoy quiet time with a book and a cup of tea; it’s a coveted indulgence with today’s busy lifestyles. So, when this big wall needed function and purpose, it was a great opportunity to add a built-in seating area in the bookcase. We transformed an unused area into an entertainment area that was perfect for conversation with friends and family.
We dressed up the reading nook with a custom box cushion, pillows, and an upholstered back panel in fun floral fabric that coordinates with the whole family room.
