Do you love books? Does your collection keep growing, despite new technology that has streamlined some of your storage issues? If you are like most of my clients, you have a large, beloved book collection with no plans to edit your collection down any time soon and a little problem – not quite enough storage space.
After coming across a fellow Pratt graduate’s invention of a concealed book shelf that transforms books into art, I knew it was a great solution to at least some of the books in a current client’s Jersey City home. We hung a series of the shelves with a dual objective – to take advantage of the tall ceiling height in the room, and to utilize a small, otherwise unused, odd-looking wall. The result, as you can see, is visually appealing and very functional. Add to that a unique, hand-made bookmark of a woman’s legs from an Etsy shop and you have the perfect conversation starter.
Form and function work beautifully here. You can find these concealed book shelves online at Umbra.com for $13 each. Do you have a small wall you can utilize for your own floating book art?
