When I approach designing a kid’s bedroom, or any room for that matter, I think long term. I think no matter what your budget is, if you are spending money it should last longer than a few years.
When I design a kid’s bedroom I make sure that they can grow up with it and not need to redecorate. For this reason I stay away from cutesy themes. If your child is absolute not going to live without My Little Pony on her bedroom walls there are great decals which can be removed without damaging your walls when she out grows them. Simply peal them off then they are no longer “cool”.
Staying away from typical kid themes doesn’t mean a boring totally grown up room ether. It can have plenty of fun and style without being obvious and childish. Little fun accents can add a lot of personality and easily be removed if they outgrow a look.
Some decorating ideas for kid’s room that won’t have an age limit and purely classic are: nautical themes, world traveler, and surfer kid for boys. Girls are even easier so many choices from color schemes, mixing patterns like stripes and polka dots, and Hollywood glam.
