Interior Design Dos and Don’ts
SIZE MATTERS – Area Rug Addition
One of my biggest interior design pet peeves is when someone has an area rug that is to small for there layout. It just looks ridiculous! It is a common home owner mistake that proves the importance of the interior design profession. If you hired an interior designer she would not let you make that mistake.
Design TIP: The area rug is what grounds the room. In a living room your area rugs should be under the first feet of your furniture.
In a dinning room all the chairs should sit fully on top of the area rug.
Every room is different so there is no cookie cutter; one size fits all, answer to what size area rug you should buy. A lot depends on your floor plan and where the furniture is going. With out a clear plan every item you buy has the potential to be an expensive mistake. Your first step in furnishing any room in your home should be to hire an interior design. It doesn’t cost to hire a professional, it pays!
