I am back from my trip to the High Point Furniture Market (HPMKT) and as always it was inspiring, educational, fun, and exhausting! Most people have no idea what HPMKT is, and why would you when its not open to the public, this is only open to interior designers and furniture stores. The market is a week long and held twice a year in the Spring and the Fall.
To give you a sense of how large the show is I would say its like visiting Disney World and each day and fitting in The Magic Kingdom and Epcot all in one day, everyday! To give you a better idea check out this short video to see what I’m talking about. It’s huge!!
As an interior designer its really important to me to have experienced the products I recommend to my clients, weather that be sofas or dinning tables seeing it person makes a big difference. I happened to have a small office that has some showroom space for clients to see furniture in person but there is no way ANYONE can show even half of what is available. Which is why attending HPMKT is necessary for me to tell you the client how something feels, in other words I have “butt tested” the products I recommend so I know you’ll be comfortable. Here is sample of one “butt test” at my favorite upholstery manufacturer CR Laine “butt test” to compare seat cushions and find what is comfortable for one person vs another.
I love being an interior designer so these trips to the furniture market are more fun then work. This show is where each furniture and accessory manufacture showcase the latest products and its really inspiring. I invite you to have a look at some really cool versatile tables and other funky fun furniture here.
I hope you enjoyed the sneak peek into the furniture market! If you are looking to redecorate and would like some help making the right choices please contact me now to find how we can work together and if you want to learn more check out my services page.
