We all have treasured memories from special times and events that we’ve captured on camera. Sometimes they’re professionally photographed and printed up beautifully in large format, and sometimes they’re photos we’ve taken ourselves. They can mark time through celebrated milestones or stir a spontaneous smile with a simple memory.
As an interior designer, I see the inside of a lot of homes, and a common design mistake I have noticed is the way family photo are displayed. I know that everyone’s intentions are good when arranging some of their favorite photos in personalized frames or cute theme frames. Unfortunately, the end result is a bunch of visual clutter to your eye; not good.
My designer tip is that the best way to display family photos is grouped together and framed consistently in the same or similar finish color.
Having the same color frames for all photos grouped together in an area is the simplest way to create a gallery look. Whether you have grouped your photos on the top of your piano, in a bookcase or hung on a wall in your home, the same color frame unites your grouping and coordinates the whole look.
To accomplish the gallery look, you can go buy all new frames in the same color, or if you have a creative side, you can paint the frames you already have. For a small investment of time and money, you can use ether spray paint or acrylic paints to effect a consistent color for all of your frames.
The little design details make a big impact on the overall design aesthetic of your home. This quick and easy tip to create your own family gallery will amaze and inspire you with the stunning results.
