As I write this I am currently enjoying the outdoors on my patio set. As a Northern New Jersey resident I only get to sit outside and enjoy my beautiful backyard about half the year. Having never lived where the weather is pleasantly consistent all year I often think that I appreciate the flowers and lush green scenery more that say someone who lives in Florida. Although I must confess the idea of being a snowbird is very appealing.
My interior design philosophy for outdoor living is to just think of your outside living in the same terms as you’re inside living (except respect Mother Nature in the process). I help clients to create spaces outside that they can enjoy by designating separate areas as you would your home.
The obvious is dining, one of the first things a new home owns buys is a BBQ grill and a patio set. I invite you to think of adding a living room area as well. The range of outdoor furniture options has exploded by 1000% in the last few years with the trend of outdoor kitchens and fire pits being so hot. Your options are almost overwhelming.
I personally have an open air outdoor concept for my home so I avoid pieces with cushions. You can still get comfort from a wicker or even more durable plastic woven piece. That way when I sit I’m not surprised by a wet cushion that looked dry.
It’s time to enjoy the serene beauty of nature, so go out and make your outdoor spaces as inviting as the inside of your home.
