When my clients chose a decorative paint finish for their master bathroom and they didn’t love it, I knew making them happy was priority number one. My clients and I decided to go with a textured wall treatment with a raised design element for a spa like effect in their master bath. We chose it together after seeing many different sample boards of various style and effects.
The sample board we chose from the decorative painter was inspiring, but the color was slightly more yellow in tone then their tile. My decorative painter was able to mix up some custom colors for the room that were a better match.
When the room was complete, in spite of the customized colors, my client reluctantly told me she didn’t love it. She wasn’t sure why or what to do about.
As an experienced designer, I have seen this happen from time to time. It’s very hard for people to really visualize how something will look base on a sample. There is usually a solution to most problems, and when you have good people who stand behind their work, it is easy to fix.
In this case I meet with my decorative painter in the room and she mixed up a base color that was applied over the finish to soften the look for the whole room. This took some of the high contrast down making the new finish is more serene. We also decide to pop the raised damask design by darkening the color of them, so they stood out more.
The most important thing to me is having happy clients. After adding another layer of paint to the master bathroom walls my client was much happier, which means so am I.
