I don’t know about you, but I love learning how things are made and getting a sense of the makers. I recently toured one of my favorite furniture manufactures names Zimmerman Chair. They make real 100% wood furniture and they do it all in Pennsylvania.
This trip really enhanced my appreciation for this furniture. As a manufacture of high end extremely well made furniture all made in USA I have sold their tables, chairs, cabinets, and bookcase for about 7 years. They offer a wonderful variety of styles, wood species and finishes of all kinds.
Zimmerman Chair gave a bunch of dealers a private tour of how everything is made. I found it fascinating that they have chairs that are totally bench made plus completely modern techniques that make other pieces in the collections.
The top fun facts I learned from this trip:
*Their origin story is so romantic! Zimmerman Chair is very much a family run business and they got their start when the family farm wasn’t doing that well. One of the younger sons who was just married decided to make a table and chair set for his new bride as a wedding gift to her.
He continued making furniture for other people and soon enough the furniture business was doing better than the family farm and they stopped farming to dedicate more time to making beautiful furniture.
*Zimmerman Chair has a green foot print as they reuse all the wood that comes through the shops. The medium size pieces of wood that get cut off are reused as much as possible into other pieces plus they create wood chips for local farmers to use in their barns with the really small pieces. This is great for the environment and let’s face it puts more profits in their business when you can use all the materials to their fullest.
*I love the look of a Live Edge table and Zimmerman Chair has tons of stock to choose from. They take huge trees and cut them like they were slicing bread. These images show you some of the process and the most amusing photo is the board they created of random things they have found when cutting through the trees! Incredible!
This experience has made me an even bigger fan of their furniture. As one of their dealers I would be happy to help you find just the right pieces for your home. I invite you to contact me to find out more.
