HOT TRENDS – Feathers and Fur
As a designer, I keep up on all the latest trends in the marketplace. Something that’s been catching my eye lately is the use of feathers and fur in some unexpected application in home design. In the past, the use of a bearskin rug or an ottoman covered in a deerskin was a masculine accent, reserved for perhaps a Man’s library. The new trend is decidedly more feminine, adding luxury and whimsy to accent pieces for any room of your home.
The Furry:
One of my favorite recent finds is this absolutely over the top furry chair by Wild Chairy. The classic Queen Ann style is turned upside down by the application of the fluffiest material I have ever seen. Next to that is the Pottery Barn Teen “Furlicious” desk chair. I don’t think you need to be a teenager to have one these, do you?
By now, everyone should own a faux fur throw to cuddle up with on a chilly night. These West Elm options are some of the nicer ones I have seen, but you can find faux fur throws just about everywhere.
I certainly couldn’t write about furry home accents without mentioning the huge trend of using cow hides as area rugs. This one has been printed with zebra stripes and dyed a pale pink. It has an interesting blend of funky feminine and exotic spice.
The Feathered:
Have fun with your home by adding this fabulous lamp or one of the many other feathered lamp shades and Chandeliers on the market today.
Feathers can be found on throw pillows, like this incredibly lush Dransfield & Ross Ostrich feathered pillow. How fantastic would this be as an accent pillow on your master bed?
Feathers make amazing art! This Bamileke Feather Juju hat adds unexpected texture to this collection of white on white accessories.
I hope you have enjoyed this sampling of furry and feather home décor. May it inspire you to create a space that you adore. For best results, always consult a professional interior designer to make sure you’re not going overboard with the latest trend. Sometimes less is more, but a trained eye will get it right every time.
