I recently had the privilege for spending slightly more than two weeks in Europe; we visited Paris, Florence, Rome, and Istanbul! The inspiration from each location was overwhelming. Everywhere I looked, I saw incredible historic architecture, beautiful parks with air that held the scent of jasmine and a rich history that for hundreds of years has been appreciated and preserved.
As we toured each museum, my art history classes returned to the forefront of my mind. It was a dream come true to stand in front of paintings, sculptures and architecture that I had read about for years. I highly recommend taking guided tours, regardless of whether you are current with art history or have never taken an art history class. Thanks to our knowledgeable tour guides, I remembered important details about the artists’ lives and the works they created.
We were fortunate to visit The Louvre, Versailles and Monet’s Giverny, where he transformed his stunning gardens into priceless works of art. We toured many other sites and museums, including the Accademia Gallery, Uffizi Gallery, Vatican and the Coliseum. Comfortable shoes were definitely required and although each tour was exhausting, it was all worth it!
Since returning home, friends have asked which place was my favorite. I can honestly say everything! Each cathedral we visited surpassed the previous one. Every museum left me inspired and awe-struck. Ever meal was delicious. The experience has inspired me as a person and has made me a better interior designer.
