The next, big thing in interior design is home automation. It has been around for a few years now, but I have noticed its popularity growing since the technologies have gotten easier to install, and the prices have slightly come down.
Home automation is convenience at the touch of a button. I think my friend Norman Rosenberg, of Rosenberg Power Window Treatments, said it best when he explained home automation to me. He used the analogy of your car – at the touch of a button you can play music, adjust the temperature and so much more. Now all of those conveniences are available for your home without getting up from your chair.
I think most of us get “spoiled” quickly and easily when some new technology comes into our lives, and then we can’t image life without it. I am old enough to remember the days when in order to change the channel on the TV you had to get up and turn a dial instead of using a remote. I can’t image going back to those days, and I think we will all feel that way about home automation as well.
The list of what home automation can do is a long one: home security, music in every room, home theater systems, temperature control and more. But the two, main technologies that people are implementing today are automated blinds and lighting. These can only make life easier and safer at the touch of a button.
