I love using bookcases and wall units in my designs because they offer a handsome way to store and display your collections, plus they add height to a room. Accessorizing is a fun part of my job as an interior designer, but it can be a challenge for many people.
When accessorizing, there is a lot of trying things, this way and then that way, to tweak and tszuj and get it just right. One of my design secrets when using books to accessorize is to turn them so the pages face out. This is a great way to give unified color, which is easy on the eyes. Otherwise you’ll have a lot of different color and typography, which might be a good look if you want to add more color, but not so great if you are going for a monochromatic look.
I also love putting someone’s collectibles in one focused area to really appreciate the variety and the collection as a whole. Using the collectibles all together gives a greater impact then if they were to be spread out all over a room.
Mixing books and objects usually gives the best effect. You can highlight one special piece by placing it on a few stacked books. The combination of linear looks and organic shaped objects together is quick and pleasing to the eye.
Now that you have another designer secret under your belt, go and rearrange some of you accessories. May you love where you live!
