Recently, a family that was looking for design help for a unique room contacted me. They wanted help with a room that had an indoor “endless” pool. Their children are grown and the pool is rarely used. The large room featured wonderful views of the lake and they wanted a total redo so that they could enjoy the environment.
The family lives on Green Pond and from nearly every room of the house they have amazing water views. Their home was originally purchased as a summerhouse but it has become their peaceful year round home.
Our first project was to remove the pool, which sank five feet into the ground. We filled the space and installed new floors. Since this is a first floor room and in case in case water ever leaks into that space, we used a tile that mimics real wood.
We installed a spacious wall unit that features a custom entertainment center. It accommodates a bar, ice maker, wine refrigerator, mini refrigerator. We also installed a large media center that hides speakers and wires. The show-stopping quartz stone back splash echoes the home’s scenic environment.
By re-purposing some of the existing furniture, we were able to save some of the budget. We used their existing leather sofa, club chair and rich area rug. We added one swivel chair and a multi-purpose ottoman/coffee table that features trays and stain resistant fabric in a faux cow print. The addition of a vintage pinball machine now makes this warm, comfortable, cozy room practical for entertaining and perfect for watching movies.
The stunning “before” and “after” photos illustrate the room’s complete re-design. This is the most complex room redesign of my career and I was very pleased to hear my clients say they have been enjoying the space more than they ever expected.

15 Apr 2016This is some really good work here. The transformation is really stunning. My favourite part is the multi purpose coffee table in the living room. I have never seen a furniture like that, especially the stuffed border around the table with Dalmation print. Really nice. I like such transformations where the designer keeps the budget in mind and doesn’t go completely over the top while remodeling the home.
We are looking to remodel our house here in India too. I have got some good inspiration from this blog. Thanks for sharing this.
