How to Shop for Your High-End Area Rugs
I recently helped a VIP client find just the right area rugs for her large, gracious home. Since we had already figured out our plans, we knew where the furniture was going and some of the colors we wanted in the rooms. We then set out to find our shopping list of rugs. We needed to find an 8 x 10 to coordinate with the other existing rug in the Great Room, a 10 x 14 for the Dining Room, a 9×12 for the Office, a 10 x 15 for Master Bed Room and a 6’ Round for the Foyer. It was quite the shopping list, but we found the most gorgeous rugs that truly warmed up and finished off every room.
Designer Tip: Before you start shopping for your good quality, high-end area rugs, make sure you have your floor plans figured out. This will ensure that you buy the right size; nothing looks worse than an area rug that is too small. Also, when you set out to find just the right area rug for your home, make sure to bring all the fabric swatches and paint colors with which you are working. When you see an area rug that catches your eye, lay your swatches down on the rug to see a preview of how the colors and patterns will coordinate.
